MADE IN MEISENTHAL
The Centre International d’Art Verrier (CIAV) was founded in 1992 on the site of the old glass works of Meisenthal (1704-1969). CIAV preserves and promotes the region’s traditional glassmaking techniques and introduces them to contemporary designers. In 2007, on the occasion of its 15th anniversary, CIAV is planning an exhibition presenting 15 years of research and creativity with a selection of 150 stellar pieces conceived by about 50 designers (Enzo Mari, Jasper Morrison, Borek Sipek, Andreas Brandolini, Fred Rieffel, etc.). Lectures, artists’ installations (by Michel François, Yves Chaudouët, and Jean François Frering), and demonstrations of glassmaking are also planned for the programme.

VERRE ART NOUVEAU : Désiré and François Christian
The exhibition and catalogue, “Christian une famille de verriers” (“Christian, a family of glassmakers”), is planned as the first retrospective of a body of work that is still little known to the general public, especially in France. It provides the opportunity for in-depth collaboration with several museums.
Désiré Christian, who first worked for many years in close collaboration with Emile Gallé, began to work independently along with other glassmakers in his family, producing pieces that are remarkable for their accomplishment and the mastery of glass decoration techniques which they express.
The importance of the mastery of glassmaking techniques for the production of work of this kind will be one focus of this exhibition, which will provide an opportunity to teach visitors about these techniques

SERIE BLANCHE ;
In the mid-18th century ceramic production underwent major changes, as new products appeared in England and on the continent. One of these was a china made from white clay which was to ensure the success of the new industrialists.
In the Greater Region this china was produced in the potteries of Andenne and Arlon in Belgium, Septfontaines, Lunéville, Sarreguemines, and Longwy in Lorraine, and Mettlach and Wallerfangen in the Saarland. Manufacture benefited from new technical methods and the use of coal, but also from improvements in transportation and the development of trade. As a result, by the 19th century the heart of Europe was the site of a ceramics industry whose products were exported all over the world.

JARDIN DE CRISTAL
This major show is devoted to crystal, an industry which has contributed signally to the reputation of France’s “Great East” and made it famous worldwide. It presents a contemporary picture of the great crystal manufacturers (Baccarat, Daum, Saint-Louis, Lalique, Val Saint Lambert, Villeroy and Boch) whose names are of course part of our heritage but at the same time a key presence in our own day. This is due both to their enormous capacity for innovation and the major focus on creating new products, to which their collaborations with artists and designers testify.

TRANSPARENCES - glass and crystal history in Lorraine
Beginning in the Middle Ages, Lorraine has seen the growth of remarkable glass and crystal manufacture, first as a craft, later as an industry.
This exhibition will present the major technical changes which have affected the world of glassmaking since the early 13th century, and survey the work of glass and crystal manufacturers in Lorraine, in both the artistic and industrial realms, until around 1840. It will lead to a better understanding of the background of these products, which have made France a byword for originality and high quality in this area (Baccarat, Saint Louis, Daum, etc.), by putting them in historical perspective in the context of the history of taste and mores in Europe.

DAUM et l'esthétique des années 50
All the works dating from the 1950s will be viewed through the lens of the aesthetic developed by Daum the abstract, elongated forms often inspired by the artistic works of the period. This period, thus far studied only in part in a publication by Michel Daum, will be the subject of a major exhibition. For the occasion some works will be borrowed from the Manufacture, others from public and private collections in France and abroad.
An equally interesting project is the evaluation of the role of this glassmaking enterprise, not only within the field of the decorative arts but also in the fields of painting and sculpture in the 1950s, both in France and elsewhere in Europe.

VERRERIE ART NOUVEAU, l'exemple des frères Muller
The exhibition titled Verrerie Art nouveau, l’exemple des Frères Muller, to be shown at the Musée de l’Ecole de Nancy , will be the first exhibition devoted solely to glass manufacture in Lorraine. The Muller brothers were not members of the Ecole de Nancy, although the pieces they produced were similar to those of Emile Gallé and the Daum brothers. The works they created were original and sophisticated, much like contemporary glass production in Lorraine. The exhibition will also present examples resulting from the collaboration of two members of the family with the Cristallerie du Val Saint-Lambert in Belgium, which bears witness to the circulation of ideas and interactions between the major centres of Art .
