 A new glass degree and a pioneering project

A group of glasscraft associations and companies have decided to convey throughout Europe the spirit of the French Compagnons, the highest order of the craftsmen's guild.
In the scope of the Leonardo da Vinci Programme the CERFAV has been the pioneer in creating the Compagnon Verrier Européen’s degree, a chartered programme of unmatched excellence and innovation in perfect harmony with the glass tradition.

The Compagnon Verrier Européen’s degree

Course content :
It begins with a two-year full-time programme attended at the CERFAV.
In the first year students prepare an optional module of the glass CAP programme.
In the second year courses are essentially based on the content of the BMA programme.
This programme is followed by a third year which enables students to work in a studio placement throughout Europe both developing their mastery of skills and glass business knowledge.

The programme includes :
- a hands-on practical approach to the basics of glass making,
- the study and the development of students’ practical skills in areas of practical glass making such as Hot Glass and Cold Work,
- management glass training courses

Graduates not only become successful makers in glass but are also given the skills needed to set up their own businesses.

Entry requirements :
Applications are welcome from holders of an Undergraduate Diploma. All
suitably qualified applicants are admitted according to qualifications and suitable references. Besides, we look for artistic and creative ability and competence in standard English.

Application procedure :
All applications must be made by 15 June in each academic year.

Sessions :
Courses run from 30 august to 27 July.

Among a large range of opportunities graduates become :
- glass-blowers,
- makers in decorative glass,
- makers in architectural glass,
- or successfully set up their own workshops.

Tutorial support

- The programme also includes exchanges of students between countries within the EEC.
- All students are given individual attention and support through their studies and project works by tutors who are experts in their field of specialisms, providing a unique team of educators.
- Staff are experienced practitioners from both industry and studio practices, glass artists and a dedicated team of full-time and part-time teachers providing high standards of teaching.


Entry requirements


Applicants should send their application forms by 15 June in each academic year.

Application forms must be accompanied by :

- a curriculum vitae,
- a letter of application,
- a portfolio of Fine Art work
- an outline of your professional project which may constitute the base of the settting up of your own glasscraft studio.
