Trends in car manufacturing

11h00 - 12h30
Conference by Herve Arribart, Saint Gobain. (France)
What makes one in a glass industrial research center?
Description :
In Glass industry, the research programmes treat of course on glass, but not only, and by far, on this material. Today, the technological core of certain glass industrial sectors is not any more the production and transformation of glass. For example, for flat glass (glazings for building and car, flat-faced screens), it is on fonctionnal surface by deposit of thin layers which carry the largest efforts. Nevertheless, the search of new glass formulations, new processes of development, materials in contact with molten glass remains very active. The share part for re search of new applications for glass is in a constant increase. It relates to sectors as various as the energy production, electronics, lighting or the medical one. Lastly, the glass products often associate glass with other materials and in particular polymers, thermoplastics as well as thermo hardening polymers. Consequently, the research topics covered a very great diversity, and the spectrum of necessary competences is very wide. One will give a vision of this panorama through many examples of recent researchs or in progress.

Glazings with reinforced heat insulation: a stake for substainable growth
Description:
After a fast presentation of the GEPVP, one approaches the modes of thermal transfers through glazings in the aim of being able to limit them (coatings, gas, warm edge spacers).
One continues on the effects of the heat insulation on the production of gas for purpose of greenhouse and one draws up the assessment of the CO2 emissions in the production of flat glass and use of insulating glazing. Lastly, the highly selective glazings give the opportunity to approach new improvements in their performances.
Conference by Mr. Laurent Metzger, Glas Trösch Alsace SA (France)
Silverstar: application of emissivity to the glazing of reinforced heat insulation.
Description :
Thermal emission as a fundamental property is decribed as its application to glass.
Means to get a glass with protection against solar emission commercially available are described. After a presentation of Ug coefficient and description of the process, combination of isolation and protection against solar emission is presented.
