Ladies and light
For the first time, Baccarat is celebrating women and light through a dazzling event that pays tribute to their creativity. Ten women designers or interior decorators, deliberately selected for their contrasting personalities, would be asked to create ten crystal chandeliers.
These artists were willing to take full advantage of the creative free reign offered. Letting their imagination run wild, they designed and created one-of-a-kind pieces, offering a radical new take on the crystal drops in Baccarat's traditional chandeliers. Hailing from the world of fashion, design or interior design, these women have one thing in common: talent and imagination that are uniquely their own.
These women draw on multiple sources of inspiration and use innovative light sources such as LEDs and fiber optic cables. As a result, their creations are sheer magic.
Their choices make this event a fabulous vehicle for Baccarat's creativity and dynamism, treating light as the purest of materials.
After shows in Tokyo and Paris, these extraordinary chandeliers will be preciously stored in the Baccarat archives.

This Italian Stained-Glass Windows Database
,
In course of realization at the present time, offers the researchers a practical and easy tool for exploring the whole corpus of the Italian stained-glass windows dating from the VI to the XVI century, including not only the ones still in situ but also the scattered panels in private collections and museums in Italy and abroad. The work project foresees the census of about 500 stained-glass windows.
The lecture key is based on three indexes: Subject, Location (with the name of the region, town, cathedral, monasteries, museum) and a Typological index of the windows (rose, mullioned window, lancet window, qamarrieh, etc.)

From Works to Book: General Catalogue of the Contemporary Glass Art Collection
From 17 October to 5 November 2006, in parallel with the exhibition 'The Most Beautiful Swiss Books 2005', the Mudac will be displaying the work entailed in producing this trilingual book (French / English / German) consisting of 412 pages and around 500 colour illustrations.
At the end of three years joint work by Chantal Prod'Hom and Bettina Tschumi, helped by members of the Glass Group (Traudl Engelhorn, Alissa Gerlich, Rosmarie Lippuner and Gabrielle Guth) and in collaboration with Atelier Cocchi, Lausanne (graphic design), La Bibliothèque des Arts (publishers) as well as with the team of partners involved in this project 'specialised authors, translators, editors and photographers'the mudac is pleased to present the stages undergone by the book, from development of the concept up until concrete realisation.
A few fundamental aspects: What scenario should be adopted. What order should we choose for the presentation of the works: by order of their entry into the inventory, by stylistic, technical or geographic grouping... How can we show off the objects to their best advantage and legitimise the consistency of the procedures followed by the collectors and the museum. What should be illustrated: everything or just part, and according to which criteria. How should we select the authors for the texts. What type of artwork, what general graphic presentation, and with what aims. So many questions, among others, that arise during an enterprise of this kind and that we will have the pleasure of presenting to you in exhibition form on the occasion of this first private book view organised at the mudac.
A thematic party will be organised for thursday, 26 october 2006, at 18h.
Bettina Tschumi, the person in charge of the Contemporary Glass Art Collection, will describe the production history of this book, explain the options retained regarding the presentation of the works and answer questions from the public.
On this occasion we will also be screening a number of documentaries about artists represented in the collection, including Stanislav Lybensky and Jaroslava Brychtova (I Grandi Vetri, exhibition of sculptures, Bergamo, 1998), Bohumil Elias (Metamorphoses, 2001) and Frantisek Vizner (documentary produced in 2002 under the patronage of the Museum of Applied Arts in Prague).
