Folies verrières au Château de Lunéville

Greetings,
While many among you are facing economic challenges, attempts to stimulate
growth are being put forth in abundance.F.Chaboissier and the "Project
Evanescence", R. Emeringer and his symposium, H. Gerardin with his "Journees
Europeennes", CERFAV & Meeting Point, Saint-Louis' new museum, not to
mention the dozens of exhibitions around the world; rarely has glass been
the object of so much attention.
This is the time to take full advantage! It's not by waiting around that we
will succeed in energizing a sector that must remain in continual
communication to make the most of its assets.

Wishing you all a pleasant summer,
Until this Fall,
Cordially yours,
Denis Simermann

USA,Millville, Fellowship Program
The Creative Glass Center of America (CGCA) was founded in 1983 by a group of artists, educators and gallery directors who became sensitive to the particular needs and financial burdens facing glass artists. Over the past 23 years, 275 CGCA Fellowships have been awarded to artists from around the world, allowing them the opportunity to focus on the development of their artwork. Today, the CGCA Fellowship Program remains the only one of its kind in the U.S. providing emerging and mid-career artists unrestricted access to the facilities and materials necessary for blown, cast and kiln formed glass.
The CGCA Fellowship Program at WheatonArts is a professional level program providing focused and self-directed artists working in glass with a concentrated period of time to work alongside their peers. Fellows work toward a common goal of advancing their careers through the perfection or refinement of techniques needed to develop a new or expanded body of work. The CGCA program is an environment where we provide the facilities, equipment and a technical orientation; however we do not have technical assistance on hand.
CGCA is housed at Wheaton Arts and Cultural Center in Millville, NJ, an East Coast center dedicated to the continuum of glassmaking in America. The Center is located in an area rich in glassmaking history and is within driving distance to New York, Philadelphia and Washington D.C.

Canada, Waterloo, Lou Lynn - Implements & Objects
June 10 to August 26, 2007
Canadian Clay and Glass Gallery
25 Caroline St.N., Waterloo, Ontario

Canada
www.canadianclayandglass.ca
Lynn is primarily concerned with the exploration of form and the use of
materials. Inspiration for her work has been for the most part informed by
architecture, archaeology and industrial objects. This has resulted in a
visual language that has implied reference to functional implements and
objects of the past. The sculptural qualities of hand tools hold a
particular fascination for her, through pondering the aesthetic decisions
of their makers. Glass has been her preferred medium which she explores
from a sculptural perspective. She investigates the fragility, strength and
optical properties of the material, focusing on form.

London, Liquid Projects
Designersblock and Liquid Projects are seeking individuals or companies interested in exhibiting in this inaugural event, which is being staged at Designersblock's 10th anniversary London event from the 19th to 23rd September 2007. We are looking for products/designs/art based work which uses recycled glass as its main component. If selected we would like you to have an involvement with this event, which would include invigilating, giving a lecture/demonstration or being involved in a glass activity on the premises during the exhibition. We also ask that people donate a piece for the auction, if appropriate.
Applications must include a written description and one image (compressed) and contact details.
Please note that there is no fee for this application
All participants will benefit from involvement in a new project that communicates the relevant but somewhat dry recycling subject in a deeply poetic way. The 2006 London event attracted 8000 visitors and this year's show is likely to see an increase in attendance.

Annual Espace VERRE's Graduates exhibition
May 31st September 7th, 2007
Ten Espace VERRE third year students will present their graduate work from May 31st ? September 7th, at Espace VERRE's gallery. This exhibition will give one a sense of how alive and vibrant the emerging glass art creativity really is. The opening ceremony is Thursday May 31st, from 6-8 pm.
The graduates' exhibition is a turning point for students in the last year of the three year program which is offered at Espace VERRE in collaboration with the Institut des métiers d'art/ Cégep du Vieux-Montréal. There are 10 graduates this year: Vincent Chagnon, Marie-Michelle Clavet, Sophie Cloutier, Pascal Leclerc, Myriam Legault Monty, Jinny Lévesque, Éliane Paul-Hus, Marylène Samson, Laura Sasseville, TANI.
The presented pieces are mostly unique sculptures and some smaller production work.
Every year, about thirty candidates apply to Espace VERRE's three-year program which accepts only twelve students. Since its beginning in 1989, more than hundred glass artisans have graduated.
As of July 2007, some of these graduates will benefit from the Fusion program. This two-year program exclusively offered by Espace VERRE allows them to improve their glassblowing technique in a designated studio space for a modest fee. While participating, they can develop and market their products, learn to manage a studio and create their own small company. Fusion is an important step to the development of all emerging glass artists' careers, following graduation. In its 10th year of existence, Fusion has had almost 45 participants to date.
To receive digital images or any other information, please contact: Catherine Piazzon, Communications & marketing at (514) 933-6849, Email: communication@espaceverre.qc.ca, www.espaceverre.qc.ca

Australia, Peter Kovacsy a Studio Practice has been short-listed for a prestigious national printing and publishing award by the Galley Club of Sydney.
The Galley Club of Sydney has been celebrating excellence in book and magazine production for 30 years. The annual awards provide an opportunity to acknowledge the individuals, publishers and printers who have excelled in book production in the preceding year.
Designed and published by Peter Kovacsy, with a forward by renowned West Australian photographer Richard Woldendorp, Peter Kovacsy a Studio Practice was launched in Perth in 2006. The book tells the story of Peter's creative development from fine woodcraft to kiln-cast glass, and the foundation of his studio gallery in Pemberton.
'The production quality of this book illustrates Peter's skill and dedication to his art practice' says art historian and author Diana Roberts, who wrote the copy for the book. 'Peter supervised every stage of production. It's another form of creative expression, and his beautiful photographs illustrate the depth of his artistic talents. It's a great achievement to be short-listed for an award along with publications from some of the country's most prestigious publishers.'
Peter Kovacsy opened his award winning studio gallery in Pemberton in 1990 to display his collection of work and give people an opportunity to observe his working methods. In 2002 he transferred his creative focus from fine wood to kiln-cast glass, and now operates the only privately-owned kiln in Western Australia capable of producing large scale cast glass sculpture. Peter's work is represented in many national and international collections including the Art Gallery of Western Australia, the Wesfarmers collection, and the Detroit Institute of Art.
The 2007 Annual Awards for Excellence in Book and Magazine Production will be announced at a dinner hosted by the Galley Club of Sydney on 15th June.
Peter Kovacsy a Studio Practice is available in hardback (case bound)and softback covers from various outlets in the South West of Western Australia, the Art Gallery of Western Australia bookshop, the National Gallery bookshop, and direct from the artist?s studio in Pemberton by contacting www.peterkovacsy.com
