Stephen Pon
Glashaus invites us into the works of Stephen Pon, Canadian glassmaker who learned glass at Espace Verre, Quebec. Illustrated with beautiful photos by Andrew Gene, the article highlights the ideas of the inner travel and the exploration of the human relationship with nature and culture revealed by Stephen Pon's works. Made in "pâte de verre" and blowed glass, his fantasy ships, in particular his 5,35 feet long catamaran, as much as his vases and characters embody the artist's reflexion on the human aventure.
Glashaus 02/2008, p. 8-9, Catherine Piazzon and Suzanne Delorme.
Tessa Clegg
Graduated from the Stourbridge School of Art where she learned "pâte de verre" with Keith Cummings from 1979 to 1982, Tessa Clegg continued what she calls her "long apprenticeship" until 1993. Through geometric, clear translucent and transparent shapes in pâte de verre enclosing a sole colour, Tessa Clegg is in search of the perfect abstracted form and timeless beauty. She carries on evolving and experiencing with sculptural pieces like "Jabot" still showing the inner dimension of her work. Tessa Cleggs's works can be seen in the permanent collections of international museums such as Racine Art Museum and Corning Museum of Glass in the USA, the "Musée des Arts Décoratifs" in Paris, Alexander Tutsek-Stiftung in Munich and Hokkaido Museum of Modern Art in Sapporo, Japan.
Glass Quaterly n° 111, Summer 2008, "Essence enclosed", p. 50-57, Jennifer Hawkins Opie, Art historian.
Jay Musler
The author's enthusiasm for Jay Musler's work and personality cannot be ignored and it is easy to understand him as he states that Musler's wineglasses "could be the most poignant and beautiful objects in contemporary glass sculptures". What makes Jay Muler's difference are the chromatic palette he uses with biting and bitter tones as well as the dried aspect of his works' surfaces. Jay Musler who blew glass when he was young focalizes nowadays on cutting and sandcasting small glass pieces that he transforms through grinding, painting, gluing, lampworking. He assembles and overlays them in an infinite variety of colours making every one of them different. This artist from San Francisco draws his inspiration from his Californian roots and from the American Indian and African civilizations as suggested by the series "Masks", "Wineglasses" and his sculptures.
Glass Quaterly n° 111, Summer 2008, "Dessication Row", p. 58-65, James Yood.
