7th International Glass Symposium "Glass in Context : Art - Image - Industry"
6th to 9th April, 2006
The newly rebuilt Frauenau Glass Museum offers an impressive venue for the legendary Frauenau Glass Symposium: We invite the international glass art scene, glass producers, schools and art academies, designers, glass specialists and everybody interested in glass to join us.
From a starting point of glass art the aim of the symposium is to build a bridge between the poles of art and industry and offers the possibility, in an international context, to exchange historical and present day perspectives into glass art, design, craft and industry, education and the market place. Lectures, discussions and presentation platforms as well as exhibitions, contact and meetings will take place in the new Frauenau Glass Museum, Frauenau glass factories and exhibtion spaces. The symposium wants to initiate the creation of a contact platform to gather and exchange information and ideas for existing and future co-operation partners in the field of glass art, industry, craft and education.

VITRA- the virtual glass training workshop
The VITRA project is a European project of the Socrates-Leonardo da Vinci group, co-directed by CERFAV and Videoscope (University at Nancy II), whose aim is to create a European Center for Virtual Training in Glass Arts and Techniques. The "Leonardo" network was born from the conviction that international exchange between artisans, artists and students is more necessary than ever for the consolidation and development of glassmaking activities. Throughout the history of glassmaking too much knowledge has already been lost for not having been shared in time.
VITRA is an association between CERFAV and the schools of Abate Zavetti (Italy), Novy Bor (Czech Republic), and the Pukeberg School of Design at the University of Kalmar (Sweden).
12 techniques will be addressed (3 by each partner country).
A first technical training was already developed in January at Vannes-le-Chatel.

Training : Ruth Allen, glassblowing at The Glass Furnace (Turkey)
July 16 - 22
Ruth will share through demonstrations and process discussions her unique technique of hot formed construction. Unlike any other approach to the material Ruth creates sculptural forms by adding a multiple of bits. Her large scaled installations involving movement, light, sound and glass forms communicate strong theoretical interest and experience with aesthetics.

Immaterial / Material..., Works by Karen LaMonte
Neues Glass/New Glas, spring 2006, 1/06, p.10-17
Doy Gen
Karen LaMonte's recent work has taken the form of large (usually life-size) glass sculptural forms, glass reliefs, etched mirrors and large monotype prints of items of closing.
XXI. Century stained glass in France
Neues Glass/New Glas, spring 2006, 1/06, p. 26-35
The position of stained glass within the arts in France is currently being redefined with the help of the government, as impressive publications accompanying exhibitions at the Centre International du Vitral in Chartres document.
Yoshi Yamauchi
Glashaus/Glasshouse, 1/2006, p. 4-5
Kalthoff Norbert
Yoshi Yamauchi has developed the art of fusing metal foil and glass pieces. In this way she produced a typical means of expression for her work ; spheres of archaically strange matt gleaming metal in contrast to matt white or with asphalt lacquer painted spheres. Her glass panels are worked on both sides.
