There is a new director at the Museum of Glass in Düsseldorf
Helmut Ricke has left his post, after 38 years, to be replaced by Dedo von Kerssenborck-Krosigk, who worked for 4 years at the European Glass department of the Corning USA Museum of Glass.

Lalique Crystalworks : buyout and possibilies for development
The Swiss group Art & Fragance, who has recently bought the Lalique Crystalworks, has just sold 49% of it to the Financière Saint-Germain, who already own "Porcelaines de Limoges Haviland" and "Cristalleries Royales de Champagne".
Moreover Lalique plan to go into real estate thanks to the construction of luxury high-rise buildings, under its trademark.
Furthermore, in the tableware department, they will propose together Haviland collections of porcelain and crystal. Lalique also plans to boost its luxury jewellery activity based on the drawings of its founder. Finally, the construction of the Lalique Museum in Wingen-sur-Moder (France) will begin on the 8th november 2008.

Results of the Crystal Vision competition
Swarovski and Designboom, the co organizers, have named the winners:
- Jeremy, Simon and Dareen Doherty, win the first prize for their "Swarovski mouse"
- the second prize is awarded to Anthony Mallier for his "Sparkle" contact lenses
- Chun-ta Tsao, was granted the third prize for his crystal loud speakers "Speaker-Light"

Website of the month : Anna Torfs
After studying interior design in Belgium where she's from, Anna Torfs went to the Czech Republic. Since 2002, she has designed her own collections of tableware. The ability of glass to capture, reflect and absorb light is the central theme in her work.

Aurélie Kirtz, young artist specialized in jewellery, will take part in the sixth edition of "Cadeaux d'Artistes" in Paris. This sale is organized over two week-ends in December, and gives people the opportunity of meeting young creators and artists.

Germany - European Museum of Modern Glass in Coburg
This Museum was opened on the 11th october in Germany and offers the largest display of contemporary glass in Europe.
The items shown are from Japan, Europe and the USA. The sculpture "Blau in Rot" by Gerd Sonntag, a German artist, can be seen there among others.

Strasbourg Glass Prize
The European Studio Glass Art Association (ESGAA) is organising the first international "Strasbourg Glass Prize" competition. Its theme is "Glass and Transmission" and is open from 15th September to 31st December 2008. The first prize is 5000 euros.
